Most broadcast groups today are able to secure multiple channel positions as part of their retransmission agreements.  The groups typically roll out ad supported subchannel networks on these subchannel channel positions.

 Broadcast management group: Company that either owns the television station (all media types) or manages some aspect of the TV station for another owner. Across Platforms also records ownership at the time of a purchase agreement or JSA/LMA agreement and not when the FCC approves of the transaction.

Sinclair’s WUCW Minneapolis Delivers Over 300 Thousand OTA Homes To Grit

WUCW-TV 23 (in Minneapolis) is Sinclair’s largest over the air market for Grit out of the 51 TV stations the Baltimore-based group has launched the male oriented network on. The Baltimore group will be able to keep tabs on the growth of the programming service as they have also launched them on WUTB-TV 24 in Baltimore.

Duplicated OTA (over the air) households – Estimated households in a market, using Census data and TV station signal footprints, less the MVPD Providers (cable, overbuilders, and satellite). Duplicated OTA homes are reported multiple times depending upon how many unique networks have secured affiliate agreements in the market. Duplicate signals for the same network in the market are only reported for the primary affiliate.

TV Technology 8/20/2014 – Nine U.S. TV Stations Swapped for $537 Million-Hearst will acquire Media General’s NBC affiliate, WVTM-TV, in the Birmingham, Ala., market and LIN’s ABC affiliate in Savannah, WJCL-TV.

From TV Technology6/23/2014- CULVER CITY, CALIF.—getTV, Sony Pictures Television Networks’ U.S. digital broadcast television network, is adding 33 Sinclair stations to its affiliate count. With getTV’s new SBG agreement, the network’s clearance level is close to 70 percent of U.S. television households, upping its current reach almost 20 percent, since the channel’s debut four months ago.See more at TV Technology
